Daily Readings: Joshua 6 and Psalm 6
Let’s remember that in Joshua 5 we saw that the true battle was going to be fought by the “army of heaven”, while Joshua and the Israelites would play only a supportive role – in a sense participating as junior partners in God’s greater work. Today you and I are invited to join God in what God is doing in our world too. Sometimes, like it was for the Israelites in Joshua 6, the role we are called to play may feel counterintuitive. Marching around a city in silence for 6 days, then seven times on the 7th day must have felt ridiculous. But it worked. Their obedience to God’s instruction was an act of bold, counter-intuitive obedience. They trusted that God was at work, even when they had no idea how!
Heavenly Father, help us to sense Your calling today as we walk in fellowship with You. Holy Spirit, give us the grace and the courage to follow Your prompting, even when Your instructions feel strange. Help us to live in Your counter-intuitive way: to love the stranger selflessly, to care generously for those in need, to forgive those who harm us, and to humble ourselves so that others may be lifted up. In the name of Jesus our King. Amen.
