Daily Readings: Joshua 7 and Psalm 7
Our reading from Joshua 7 makes me want to sit silently in stunned awe of how serious the holiness of God is. We don’t like to think about it, but Psalm 7 confirms that “God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.” (v.11) How lightly do I take God’s holiness and His hatred of sin? Have I forgotten that God’s love for us causes Him to intensely hate the sin that robs us of life? Do I treat sin lightly and dabble with it gleefully, rather than flee from it in love for God? Do I believe that I am in charge of my own life and that I know what is good for me, rather than humbly believing that God’s will for my life is good, pleasing and perfect?
Heavenly Father, forgive me for taking sin lightly and for rebelling against Your love. Holy Spirit, fill me with the desire and the power to do what is pleasing to my King, and to flee from that which is not. In His Name I pray. Amen.
