Partnership with God

Daily Readings: Joshua 10 and Psalm 10.

Although Joshua 10 involves horrifying scenes of great violence, in essence it highlights an astounding truth: God chooses to work in partnership with humanity when we submit to Him and make ourselves available. Joshua discerned the will of God (by applying the principle that we are to keep our word at all times), God gave the encouragement (v.8) and ultimately God gave the victory through supernatural interventions like massive hailstones and the sun standing still in the sky long enough for the victory to be completed. But the Israelites did not win the victory by lazing about in their tents. They put in an all-night march, they fought the battle, they pursued the enemy. The victory was won because of God’s power working through the faith-filled actions of His people.

Heavenly Father, forgive me when I sit back and wait for You to do everything for me. This very day grant me a clear understanding of Your will, the courage to obey it, and the strength to follow through by living out Your will in practical action. Please use me for Your glory and for the accomplisment of Your purposes and plans in my life and my world today. Amen.

“The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.” – Joshua 10:13c
