The joy of Your presence

Daily Readings: Joshua 16 and Psalm 16

Daily readings listing territory given to various tribes thousands of years ago can feel a bit pointless and irrelevant to our lives today, but notice the beautiful words of Psalm 16:5-6, “Lord, You alone are my portion and my cup; You make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” Let us be reminded by these beautiful words, that when we walk with the Lord, that relationship is, in and of itself, our delightful inheritance and our most wondrously pleasant place. We may not physically live in a geographic territory over which Jesus reigns as King, but our lives are that territory! And as v.11 says, “You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” May we experience that joy of the LORD’s presence in all its fullness today.

Come, Spirit of my Lord Jesus, and guide me in the paths of eternal life today. Cause me to walk through today in the perfection of Your presence, being conscious of Your nearness with every breath. May I find true delight in Your companionship and company. May Your goodness be more than enough for me. And Jesus, Lord of joy, help me in turn to bring You joy in all I do today. Amen.
