Daily Readings: Joshua 22 and Psalm 22
Every so often in Scripture, the LORD brought His people back to the heart of His commands. It happened again in Joshua 22, when they had settled in the land and been given safety from their enemies. Being physically “safe” and comfortable makes it easy to forget the LORD and His goodness to us. So Joshua reminded them again: “Be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (v.5)
To love and serve our God with all of our heart and soul is no small instruction, but it is the very heart of our walk with the LORD. No religious rituals or service count for anything, if they are not motivated by love for God.
Holy Spirit, please empower me to consistently bring my love for the Father back to the centre of my life and to allow it to be the motivation for my outward living in this world. I do love You LORD. I want to love You more, and to express that love more adequately through my daily life. Give me the strength I pray. Amen.
