Daily Readings: Joshua 24 and Psalm 24
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord,” Joshua boldly declared, as he laid down the gauntlet for the Israelites to decide where their allegiance lay – whether to Yahweh, the Great I AM, or to the idolatrous gods their parents had been led astray to serve in Egypt. Joshua had never been one to go with the crowd. When he and Caleb had scouted the land a lifetime ago, their ten other companions came back and discouraged God’s people from obeying the Lord’s commad to go and take the land. But Joshua and Caleb stood firm in their faith and stirred the people up to trust the Lord and take Him at His word. That day, the Israelites chose fear over faith and refused to enter the Promised Land. They ended up wandering for 40 years in te wilderness before God graciously brought the next generation into the Land.
Now, all these years later, Joshua is at it again. This time he is addressing the children and grandchildren of that failed generation. Again his attitude is: “I don’t care what you decide but I want you to know every clearly where I stand. You make your own decision, but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!
Who will I serve today? Will I serve the opinions of others, or will I serve the Lord who loves me and gave His life for me.
Father, today I choose to worship You. Lord Jesus, today I choose to follow You. Holy Spirit, today I choose to yield to You. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I choose YOU. Amen.
