Daily Readings: Judges 1 and Psalm 25
In Psalm 25 David prays, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me.” (v.4-5). Later he prays: “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.” (v. 21)
In this we learn that it is not enough to ask the Lord to teach us His ways, we also need to make our own moment-by-moment decisions to walk in those ways with integrity and uprightness. It is not enough to know what is pleasing to the LORD, we also need to act on that knowledge and DO what we have become convinced is pleasing to Him. We know that David didn’t always get that right. This should be a warning to us, not to trust in our own ability, but to trust in God’s power at work in us by the Spirit.
Father, in every situation I face today, help me to know clearly what You desire from me and what will be pleasing to You. Then give me the grace and the power of the Spirit to stay in step with Your perfect will and plan. Help me not to pay lip service to Your ways, but to walk in them with integrity all my days. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
