Victory is the Lord’s

Judges 7 and Psalm 31

“You have too many men,” the LORD said to Gideon, “I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’” (v.2)

That is astounding. God calls Gideon to get rid of some of his soldiers because he is too well resourced for God’s liking. We tend to hedge our bets, don’t we? We might hold back some of the Lord’s tithe just to “make sure” we have enough. Or we might put off telling others about Jesus because we are still learning that litte bit “more about the Bible” so that we can convince them. God is not impressed by our human efforts. He LOVES to use an under-resourced, under-prepared underdog to win astounding victories and bring glory to Himself.

So today, let’s be bold enough to stop holding back, stop making excuses and step out trusting fully in the LORD our God, Who wins the victories on our behalf to glorify His name!

Father, please make me brave, bold and courageous, to face whatever battles or challenges come my way, in the sure and certain confidence that You will be with me to “fight my battles” and to bring me through victoriously. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
