Daily Readings: Judges 13 and Psalm 37
Samson was not even born yet when the Lord proclaimed that he would be a “Nazirite of God from the womb until the day of his death.” (Judges 13:7) This was highly unusual. Numbers 6:1-21 explains the Nazirite vow, and it is clearly a voluntary commitment of oneself to the LORD and to living in holiness and purity. Yet God spoke this over Samson before his birth. God gave Samson’s parents strict instructions to raise him as if he had made this vow already, and then, through the influence of their parenting and God’s work in his life, God would lead him to continue his adult life as a Nazirite, set apart for a lifetime of service to the LORD.
Heavenly Father, grant grace to Christian parents to raise their children to love You, believing in their future and trusting the powerful work of Your love in their lives to bring them into that future. Under Your mighty hand, may our children grow to love You with all of their hearts, souls, minds and strength, and to serve you with every fibre of their being in future. Amen!
