Daily Readings: Judges 16 and Psalm 40
What struck me as I read this account today was how much of a “lone ranger” Samson was. He seems to have drifted through life without any friends or companions, going from one selfish sexual relationship to the next; getting into one solo battle after another. How much heartache and pain might he have been saved, if he had only had a few righteous friends to counsel him and support him in his “quest”? His life ended in tragedy as much as victory, but it could have been very different if he had not been quite so alone in the world.
Father, please protect me from my own self-centredness and from the kind of isolationism that keeps other believers at an arm’s length. I confess that I need others in my life who can speak Your words of wisdom and counsel, and who can occasionally “pull up the handbrake” of my life, when I am heading down the wrong path. Lord, have mercy on me, and bring such people into my life. Thank you for the godly family and friends I already have, and help me to be open to their words of wisdom and caution when needed. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
