Cometh the hour

Daily Readings: 1 Samuel 11 and Psalm 57

He may have been a reluctant king, but as the classic saying goes, “Cometh the hour cometh the man”.

The people of Jabesh Gilead were under great threat from a powerful enemy and they sent for help. As Saul received the call, the Spirit of God came upon him in great power and righteous anger burned within him at the injustice being done to his countrymen. He sent a call to arms throughout the countryside in such dramatic fashion that the hearts of all the fighting men of Israel were stirred, and a mighty army was raised in a matter of days. The rescue of Jabesh Gilead was accomplished in an overwhelming victory. To his great credit Saul acknowledged in all humility that the LORD had rescued Israel, and not he, Saul.

LORD, I don’t know what challenge will come my way today, but help me to meet it in the power of Your Spirit. May I find myself rising to the occasion with Your power, and with a great passion born of my love for You and my trust in You! Amen.
