A praying leader

Daily Readings: 1 Samuel 12 and Psalm 58

As Samuel’s ministry and life was coming to an end, he still had the grace to say to God’s people, “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you.” Samuel had been a great leader, a righteous prophet and a man of huge authority among God’s people. It seems this was, in no small part, due to his commitment to praying for God’s people.

How committed are we to praying for those in whose lives the Lord has given us influence? After all, leadership is influence, and each of us has people whom we influence. Do we pray for them? Perhaps you are recognised as a leader in some capacity. Perhaps you’re a parent, or an influencer in your circle of freinds. Whoever we influence, we are leading. So let’s follow Samuel’s example and strive to be good and godly leaders, by praying for them each and every day.

Heavenly Father, I pray for those whom I lead – whether formally or informally – and ask You to minister powerfully to them. Lead them by Your Word and empower them by Your Spirit to live victorious lives today. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen,
