Daily Readings: 1 Samuel 17 and Psalm 63
“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (v. 37)
As we seek to live in ways that honour the Lord, we will come across many challenges, obstacles and potential pitfalls. There will be times that we face situations that frighten or intimidate us. In those moments, this verse encourages us to look back on similar moments in the past, and to recognise how the Lord has helped, strengthened, encouraged and delivered us. The same Lord who has been with us and brought us through in the past, will be with us to bring us through again!
Heavenly Father, it seems You used encounters with lions and bears to prepare David for this victory over Goliath. Goliath, in turn, was a preparation for many more future battles. May we be strengthened for the battles we face today by the remembrance of Your past work in our lives. Remind us, Holy Spirit, of the goodness of our God, and help us to trust that the same God who saved us then will save us now. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
