No compromise

Daily Readings: 1 Samuel 29 and Psalm 75

David was in a truly dark place. He had defected to the Philistine leader Achish of Gath, leaving the people of God behind under Saul’s dark reign (1 Samuel 27:2). Then he took to raiding with horrific violence and enriching himself behind Achish’s back (see 1 Samuel 27:8-11). Now he found himself lining up with the Philistine army to fight against his own people and, although Achish foolishly trusted David implicitly, the other Philistine rulers rejected his presence. David was rejected at home, and now he was rejected even by the pagans. He was sent back to Ziklag to sit out the battle.

While God was also at work in David’s life during this dark season and never gave up on him, David was learning the hard way that no one can find their true purpose and destiny by aligning with evil ways or evil alliances. One cannot accomplish God’s purposes by evil means. The ways of God are never ways of compromising with evil.

Heavenly Father, help me to keep my ways pure before You today. Even when Your will and Your way is more difficult, grant me the wisdom, courage and strength to continue walking in ways that are pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen..
