Daily Readings: 2 Samuel 22 and Psalm 98
2 Samuel 22 contains a Psalm of David which is also published in the Book of Psalms as Psalm 18. As David’s reign was easing towards a peaceful end, he looked back on all the ways God had delivered, rescued and saved him out of countless life-threatening battles and dangers. Perhaps the Lord showed him a vision of what was happening in the heavenly realm as these mighty acts of His salvation were occuring. Perhaps David’s creativity was simply Spirit-inspired as he penned the beautiful poetic images in this Psalm of praise. Either way, the Lord wants us to be able to recognise that when we cry out to God for deliverance, then regardless of the many and varied ways such deliverance may come to us, it is always the Lord at work.
At the heart of all his reflection and composing is the truth expressed in this line: “The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Saviour!” Let’s hear that and believe it again today, regardless of the challenges and difficulties (even dangers) we face, we can know that our LORD lives. He is the Rock to whom we can run for protection, and the One to whom we can cry for salvation. We need never fear, for our God is with us and He is mighty to save!
Lord, I believe with all my heart that You are with me. Please reveal Your saving power in my life today. Amen.
