The Saviour King

Daily Readings: Psalm 23 and Isaiah 11:1-9

On our journey towards the coming of God’s Anointed Saviour King, Isaiah 11 prophesies that He will be from the royal line of David. Despite this line having been cut off by the exile and (later) by the political interference of Israel’s many oppressors, God promised that He would move to raise up a new king from among David’s descendants. This King would bring about true justice, fairness and goodness in His Kingdom. This King would establish a Kingdom of supernatural peace, health and well-being where all brokenness and evil is banished forever. Through this King, true knowledge of the LORD will fill every citizen of His Kingdom and flood the face of the earth.

Notice in v.2 that the King will do all this empowered by the Spirit of the LORD. The Holy Spirit will fill Him with knowledge, wisdom, skill to lead and live, the understanding of how to please God, and the perfect desire and power to do so. In His Kingdom, God’s will and God’s Kingdom will be established … perfectly.

This is our Saviour-King, Jesus! This is the King whose coming we will celebrate at Christmas. This is the King who invites us to walk out our lives as citizens of His Kingdom today. And this is the King whose Spirit will empower us to do so by filling us with knowledge, wisdom, skill to lead and live, the understanding of how to please God, and the perfect desire and power to do so.

King Jesus, may Your Kingdom of peace, health, wellness, justice, truth, fairness and goodness be established in my life, and then through me in the lives of others. Please anoint me with the power of the Holy Spirit to truly live as a citizen of Your Kingdom. Amen.
