Daily Readings: Isaiah 7:1-14 and Luke 1:26-38
It’s the final week of preparation for Christmas, so our attention now shifts to the events surrounding the birth of our Saviour. Luke 1:26-38 is the record of Mary receiving the news that God had so highly favoured her that she was to become the birth-mother of the Son of God. The angel Gabriel’s anouncement was filled with wondrous truth about Jesus. To get the most out of the passage, before you read any further, please re-read Luke 1:26-38 with your focus completely on what the angel Gabriel’s message reveals to you about this Jesus, whose birth we will celebrate next Sunday. Then having done so, write down your own prayer of praise to Jesus based on the passage.
Here’s mine:
Eternal King Jesus, Great Son of the Most High, Your Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom and Your rule will never end. Lord, may Your rule over my life be perfected, so that my life will declare Your praise today.
Eternal King Jesus, You were made incarnate and conceived in the womb of Mary by the Holy Spirit in the power of the Most High God. Come and “be born in me”. Clothe Yourself in my frail humanity, so that my life may be empowered to reveal Your beauty in the world today, by Your Holy Spirit within me.
You are the Son of God. You are the Holy One forever! I give You all my praise, honour and worship, today and forever. Amen.
