Immanuel

Daily Reading: Matthew 1:18-25

As Christmas creeps closer, we continue to reflect on the Person of our Coming Saviour.

As with yesterday’s devotion, please take some time to read through the passage slowly. Prayerfully consider what the angel’s message to Joseph reveals to you about this Jesus, whose birth we will celebrate next Sunday. Then, having done so, write down your own prayer of praise to Jesus based on the passage.

Here is mine:

Lord Jesus, I praise You and honour You. You truly are the Anointed Saviour King, the Messiah.

You were conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and Your life was filled with heavenly power, truth and love. I honour You, my King!

Your name is Y’shua, Jesus, Jehovah Saves, and that’s exactly what You do. Every day, people still turn to You and, whenever we do, You wash us in Your forgiving love and welcome us home into the Family of God. You strengthen us in our struggle with foolishness, weakness and sin, empowering us to overcome and to live the abundant, God-honouring life You lived in the flesh. To this day, You comfort me, enlighten me, protect me, defend me, heal me, restore me and make me whole. I honour You, my Saviour!

You are Immanuel, God with us. By Your grace, I am never alone. You are always with me, and You are mighty to save me from all that comes against me. I bow in worship to You, Almighty God, my Saviour! I honour You, my God, my Immanuel! Now and forevermore. Amen.
