A Prayer for Ascension Day

For the coming season, these posts will consist of prayers that help us to pray the daily Scripture readings back to God. Please read the Scripture passage a few times, slowly and prayerfully and then join me in turning it into a prayer.

Today’s reading reflects the fact that this is Ascension Day!

Daily Reading: Luke 24:36-53

Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, clothed in Your resurrection body You touched Your first disciples, ministering reassurance and peace. To their great joy and amazement, You opened their eyes to everything the Scriptures had proclaimed about Your coming. As I take time today to reflect on Your ascension, I pray:

  • Draw near to me, Risen Jesus.
  • Reassure me with Your presence.
  • Help me to see more clearly the deep truths and realities of Your eternal ministry.
  • Open my eyes as You opened theirs that day.

Lord of the Harvest, You sent out your first disciples to all nations in Your name to preach the gospel of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As I reflect on this great commission today, I pray:

  • Clothe me with the power of Your Spirit.
  • Make me a courageous and outspoken witness, inviting others to come home to Your Eternal Family by faith.

Lord of Heavenly glory, You were taken up into the glory of heaven and are seated at the Father’s right hand, ruling and reigning over every corner of infinity and eternity. Rule more completely in my heart and life today.

Amen!
