Daily Reading: Luke 4:38-43
Jesus, I am deeply humbled by the ways You prioritised the deepest needs of others over Your own needs. Suffering from the rejection of Your home town, and having just confronted and overcome the oppressive powers of disease and darkness in the place of worship, You sacrificed Your moment of rest to heal yet again. You brought Simon’s mother-in-law home to full health, and restored her to table fellowship with You and Your friends.
When the crowds arrived uninvited at Your door, Your heart of deep compassion and kindness met every need, healed every disease, and drove out every demon. Your grace brought each of them home to full health.
And when the temptation arose to stay in the place of popularity and acceptance, Your heart was drawn inexorably to those who still needed to be invited home to their Heavenly Father through the Good News of salvation through repentance and faith.
Jesus, touch My heart with a measure of Your perfect love today. Fill me with deep compassion for those who are separated and alienated from You. Let Your love overcome in me the temptation to remain silent for fear of rejection. And open my lips to speak Your words of loving invitation to all who need it today.
Lord in Your mercy, hear my prayer. Amen!
