The touch of Jesus

Daily Reading: Luke 24:36-49

“Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (v.39)

The resurrected body of Jesus is a flesh and bones body. Certainly, 1 Corinthians 15 explains clearly that it is a different form of flesh – a resurrected flesh – a glorified flesh. But the truth remains that Jesus was raised physically and not just spiritually.

Now that the risen Jesus has ascended to heaven, however, we His followers have become His physical presence. We are His body on the earth. We carry the presence of Jesus to others. And sometimes, we will be the physical representation of Jesus.

When someone is in distress and you hold their hand … Jesus is taking their hand.

When someone is plunged into devastating grief and you wrap them up in a comforting hug … Jesus is embracing them.

When someone is sick and you lay hands on them to pray for healing … Jesus is touching them.

When someone has had no physical contact with another human being all week and you go to visit them … Jesus has walked into the room.

To whom can you offer a holy touch today … a touch made holy because it is the touch of Jesus through you?

Lord Jesus, touch someone with Your comfort, Your encouragement, Your presence, Your peace, through me today. Amen.
