Daily Reading: Genesis 1
As Spring sets in, we start a week of celebrating the glory of God in creation.
“In the beginning God created …” Everything that is not God, was created by God’s will and God’s word. It is all God’s creative expression. The vast, as yet immeasurable expanse of the Cosmos. The laws that govern it. Light, and all from which it emanates. The galaxies of stars and planets. The atmosphere that encircles earth. The mountains, oceans, rivers and lakes; the forests, jungles, deserts and glaciers; the vast grasslands, sandy shores and snowy peaks. The darting fish, soaring birds and prowling predators. All this glorious beauty blazes forth the creative genius of our God!
And then, wonder above wonders, God creates a being to bear His own image and likeness in this created world, to steward it for His glory and pleasure. That creature is you. It’s me. It’s humanity.
Wherever you go today, remember that You are a bearer of God’s image and a representative of His beauty and glory in this world. You have a sacred charge to steward the created order for God’s glory and pleasure. The world is not our to exploit, it is ours to care for. And perhaps if we would remember that this created world is an expression of God’s creative genius, we would take that charge as seriously as we should.
Lord, show me Your glory in creation today, and guide me to steward Your magnificent world well. Amen.
