Daily Reading: Genesis 2

Like zooming in to a specific area on an electronic map, Genesis 2 zooms in on the moment first recorded in Genesis 1 when God created humanity.

There we discover that, unlike any other living creature, Adam was not created from dust alone. In a deeply intimate moment, God also breathed the breath of life into Adam’s nostrils and brought him to life. Humanity uniquely carries the life of God in a way nothing else in all of creation does. We bear God’s image and we live by His in-breathing.

For Christians that truth goes even deeper, for Ephesians 2:10 speaks of every believer as “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Each of us individually is God’s “handiwork”. This translates the Greek word “poema”, from which we get our English word, “poem”. We are each, individually and uniqely, a work of art – a Masterpiece fashioned and formed by the Master Creator!

You are a personal creative expression of the Eternal God who loves you and Who has adopted you into His family as His child, through your faith in Jesus Christ. Let’s simply marvel at that truth today. Amen.
