Preparing for Thanksgiving: Day Two

As we continue our deliberate journey of thanksgiving, may I remind you of my suggestion that we each take a daily time of reflection to write down as comprehensive a list as possible of our reasons for thanksgiving. This is a response to the call of Psalm 107:43 to, “Ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.” By the end of the week, I’m sure the list of our ponderings will contain more than enough reasons to give thanks to the LORD!

Daily Reading: Psalm 107

Psalm 107 begins on a familiar and joyful note of thanksgiving: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; His love endures for ever.” Then, as the Psalm unfolds, a joyful refrain repeats itself at various intervals:

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
” (v.8, 15, 21 and 31)

Psalm 107 is a litany of reasons for God’s people to give thanks to Him. According to the Psalm, each of the examples it gives of His “wonderful deeds” on our behalf is an expression of the Lord’s unfailing love.

So, please reflect on this today: In God’s unfailing love for me, how has God:

  • Guided me and provided for me when I have been physically in need (v.4-9)
  • Delivered me from bondage to a particular set of circumstances (v.10-16)
  • Healed me from physical weakness, illness or disease (v.17-22)
  • Preserved me in times of physical danger (v.23-32)

As instances of God’s guidance, provision, deliverance, healing and protection come to mind, jot them down and take a minute to write (or type) out a short expression of gratitude to God for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds on your behalf.

Holy Spirit, please guide my thoughts and remind me of the goodness and kindness I have received so liberally from the LORD. Amen.
