Hope: Day 5

Daily Reading: Hebrews 6:13-20

19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest for ever.”

For the last few days we’ve been reflecting on the confident and joyful expectation (i.e. the hope) we have that we will see God’s glory revealed in us, in increasing measure in this life, and in all its fulness in eternity. Yesterday we saw how this hope is secured by “Christ in us, the hope of glory”. Today Hebrews 6 encourages us from a different angle.

In beautiful imagery, Hebrews 6 proclaims that the same Christ who is in us by His Spirit, has also entered the true holy of holies in heaven’s throne room. As our Mediator, He stands, as it were, with one hand firmly grasping the mercy seat of heaven and the other firmly grasping us. He Himself is our Hope of glory. Christ himself is our sure and certain guarantee that no matter what stormy trials and tribulations life may throw at us, we are safely anchored to Him. He is our rope and our anchor!

Most wondrously, Jesus has entered the holy of holies as our “forerunner”, says Hebrews 6:20. A forerunner was a military reconnaissance man. A forerunner went ahead of the others, certain that others would follow behind him. In Christ, we are those others. Where Jesus is now, in the glory and heaven of the perfect presence of God, we too will one day most certainly be.

Hallelujah!!
