Daily Reading: Isaiah 32:14-20
Isaiah prophesied to God’s people with brutal honesty that they were about to be laid low by the Assyrian invasion. But at the same time he brought them God’s promise that being humbled so deeply would place them in the perfect position to repent of their sins and to receive an utterly undeserved and unprecedented outpouring of God’s Spirit and blessings.
As Christians reading Isaiah 32, we are deeply privileged to have been treated with the same outrageous mercy and grace by the LORD. We are living in the age of the Spirit when the Spirit has been poured from on high into everyone who is in Christ. We should joyfully expect that the Holy Spirit will do within us all the restorative work that Isaiah 32 promised He would do in the land of Israel after she had been humbled.
The Holy Spirit restores the believer to a position of righteousness (right relationship) before the LORD, and His gracious presence in our lives produces a very distinctive “fruit”. Isaiah 32:17-18 says:
17 The fruit of that righteousness will be peace;
its effect will be quietness and confidence for ever.
18 My people will live in peaceful dwelling-places,
in secure homes,
in undisturbed places of rest.
We have been promised that the Holy Spirit will minister to us the peace, quietness, confidence, security and rest that comes from a restored relationship with God our Father. Let’s receive that ministry by faith today.
Beautiful Spirit of Jesus the Prince of Peace, please flow through my life today and grow within me the peace, quietness, confidence, security and rest that are made possible by my belovedness and by the Father’s gracious acceptance of me. In Your Mighty Name I pray, Amen!
