For the first six weeks of 2024, the devotional blog will follow a similar rhythm to last year, with a daily reading and brief devotional thought related to the previous Sunday’s theme. From mid-February, however, we’ll loosen our connection to the Sunday theme and will start a reading plan that will take us through the whole New Testament at one or two chapters per day. I look forward to another year of walking with Jesus in fellowship with you.
Daily Reading: Isaiah 33
Key verses:
2 Lord, be gracious to us;
we long for you.
Be our strength every morning,
our salvation in time of distress.
5 The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high;
he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness.
6 He will be the sure foundation for your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.
Those who first heard Isaiah’s prophetic word recorded in chapter 33 were desperate for deliverance from the marauding Assyrian army. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Isaiah called them to turn their eyes and their hearts to the Lord, and to find their salvation in Him alone!
No matter what difficulty or challenge you may face today, Isaiah 33 encourages you to look to the Highly Exalted Lord to be your sure foundation, and to find in Him all of the wisdom and knowledge you need to be able to navigate this day. Look to Him to be your salvation from every distress, your strength for every difficulty, and your source of justice and righteousness. The key (v.6) to “accessing” all of these rich treasures from the Lord is the “the fear of the Lord” – that is, living in reverent love and awe towards the Lord, and letting every thought, word and deed be guided by Him as we go through the day trusting in His grace and strength for our salvation.
Lord, be gracious to me – I long for you. Be my strength today, and my salvation in every time of distress I may face. Amen.
