Daily Reading: Psalm 119:89-113
Today’s passage is filled with praise to God for His Life-Giving Word. Whether the LORD’s spoken and/or written word is identified as a “law”, “command”, “precept”, “statute” or “decree”, its virtues are joyfully extolled.
I invite you to take time to search these verses and list every inherent quality of the LORD’s word. You will discover that the word of the LORD is (amongst other qualities) eternal, standing firm forever, with no limits to its reach and application. Think on these truths for a moment.
Then take some time to search these verses again and list everything it is able to accomplish in our lives. Your list wil be very long, but I would summarise the many statements with this single one: “The Word of the Lord is Life-Giving”. I say that because the word of the Lord is said to save me, sustain me, preserve me, keep me from evil paths, guide me, and protect me. And, in a series of beautifully positive statements it is said to add to my life knowledge, insight, understanding and wisdom – all of which lead to greater abundance of living. The Word of the Lord is truly Life-Giving
But all these virtues and qualities and benefits of God’s Life-Giving Word will only be ours if we lay hold of them. Take time to search these verses again to see how we are told to respond to God’s Word. Among other statements, you will find that our call is to take great delight in God’s word, meditate on it, ponder its application to our lives, and then obey it faithfully and consistently! Then and only then will it impact our daily lives.
Holy Spirit, please increase my delight in the Word of the LORD, as I meditate on it, speak to me. As I ponder it, reveal its application to me. As I seek to apply it and obey it, please give me wisdom, courage, and strength to follow through on my intentions. In the Name of Jesus, the Incarnate Word. Amen.
