Daily Reading: Exodus 33:7-11
As we continue to reflect on the “Ancient Path” of a lifestyle of prayer, we come to a very significant insight from Exodus 33:
7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the ‘tent of meeting’. Anyone enquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp.
What a wonderful and holy habit: Anyone enquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting. And it seems that the two people who frequented that tent more than any others, were Moses (the current leader) and Joshua (the next leader) of God’s people. The responsibility of leadership meant they carried a significant decision-making burden and, to their great credit, they chose to rely on the Lord and His guidance, rather than their own wisdom.
Whether you see yourself as a leader or not, it is the precious privilege of every child of God to enquire of the Lord whenever we are in need of guidance, direction or wisdom for our lives. So many times in Scripture, God invites His people to seek Him, to seek His Word, to seek His guidance and direction, and He promises that if we seek we will find (Matthew 7:7).
“You will guide me with Your counsel,” says Psalm 73:24.
“The Lord will guide you always,” says Isaiah 58:11.
And Jesus promised that “when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13)
So today, no matter what you are facing, take time now to enquire of the Lord. Lay that situation or problem before Him. Ask for His counsel, and wait on Him for the prompting and inspiration of his Spirit.
