A life of Benediction

Daily Readings: 2 Corinthians 13 and Psalm 131

If you are a regular worshipper in a denominational church, I am almost certain you would be able to recite 2 Corinthians 13:14 without any trouble at all:

14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Many of us use this beautiful Trinitarian blessing to speak life over one another and to bring our worship services to a close every week. We may even call it “The Benediction”. But today I would love to invite you to see in it not only a blessing but also a call to ministry. This is a call to BE a blessing rather than just to speak a blessing.

As you go about your day, in every situation, consider how you might better display the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ask yourself, ‘How might I reflect undeserved kindness and goodness to this person in front of me?’ Consider also how you might better display the love of God the Father. Ask yourself, ‘How might I deliberately seek the highest best of this person in front of me?’ And consider how to share deeper connection with others so that you might, perchance, help them to experience the true fellowship that the Holy Spirit brings.

Lord my God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – may Your grace, Your love and Your fellowship flow through me to all those I meet. Amen.
