Daily Readings: Galatians 3 and Psalm 134
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
It’s wonderful to realise that God has freely adopted us into his Family as beloved children, not on the basis of our level of obedience to the Law, but purely on the basis of our faith in Jesus Christ. We do need to remember, though, that the kind of faith that leads to our adoption is not just a matter of believing that Christ exists. It is not just believing intellectually that He died for our sins. It is a matter of immersing our lives into Christ. Just as a person is immersed in water when they are baptised, when we place our faith in Christ we are immersed in Him.
Somehow, mysteriously, putting our faith in Christ in this way has “clothed” us with Christ. We have become deeply identified with Him. Christ now lives within us by His Spirit, and His nature and character are also revealed outwardly through our everyday lives. In a manner of speaking, we are wearing the uniform of Christ Himself.
The clothes we wear actually reveal quite a lot about us, don’t they? They often reflect our values, our personalities, and even our priorities. At red carpet events, reporters will often ask the rich and famous, “Who are you wearing?” to find out who designed their outfits. Our answer should be: “I’m wearing Christ!”
Life Application: Have you accepted your identity as a child of God on the basis of your faith-relationship with Christ? If so, wear your allegiance to Christ like a set of clothes today. Wear your allegiance to Christ on your sleeve, so to speak. Let the world see Jesus through you!
