Receive your sight

Daily Readings: Luke 18 and Psalm 34

40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ ‘Lord, I want to see,’ he replied. 42 Jesus said to him, ‘Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.’

In the sovereignty of God, Jesus performed this miracle at this precise moment of His mission to drive a spectacular point home to us.

Just before this miracle, Jesus told His disciples absolutely plainly that He was going to be rejected, suffer and die in Jerusalem, and then rise again on the third day. Yet, verse 34 says, “The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.” The disciples were blind in a spiritual way.

The man from Jericho was blind too; only his blindness was physical. The difference is that when He heard that Jesus was at hand, he cried out with profound urgency for Jesus to have mercy on Him and to heal Him. “Lord, I want to see,” he replied to Jesus’ polite inquiry, “What do you want me to do for you?

The point? Jesus came to give sight to the blind, but actually, ,healing physical blindness is a lesser miracle. The greater miracle is to show us His glory and reveal His truth to us in ways that heal our spiritual blindness.

Life application: If there is anything you do not understand about Jesus and simply cannot “see” or “get”, simply ask Him to heal your spiritual blindness today. Ask for revelation. And, by faith, receive that revelation today.
