Daily Readings: James 1-2
Did you spot a sense of familiarity about reading Luke 24 this morning? Was it almost as though you had read and reflected on it recently? Well, if you follow our Reading Plan, you would have been right to feel that way! Only in hindsight did I realise that I had merrily sailed into Luke 24 this morning without remembering that we had reflected on it “out of order” (so to speak) on Ascension Day this year.
So, whether you do so during the day, tonight, or maybe over your weekend some time, stay on track with the Reading Plan by catching up on today’s “actual reading”, James 1-2.
And while you’re at it, look out for James 1:17
17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights …
From Monday to Sunday (19-24 November) we at Walmer Methodist are focussing on a week of Thanksgiving. What an incredibly appropriate reading to take us into that focus! What a reminder that every single thing in my life that is good and pleasing and a “blessing” to me has come from God’s gracious, loving, kind hand. Now that does not mean that there were no humans involved in my receiving that goodness. But it does mean that their giving to me or blessing me in that way was, in fact, God’s goodness flowing to me through them.
So, in preparation for next week, and to help yourself to most adequately prepare to thank the Lord, please feel free to download the “Thanksgiving Prayer Guide”, which we will be using in the Prayer Room, from the Resources Page of this Blog. Please also consider signing up for a slot in the Walmer Prayer Room (if you will be in Gqeberha next week, of course) so as to use the Prayer Guide in the Prayer Room for an intentional hour of reflecting on and responding to the goodness of God in your life. Prayer Room Sign-Ups happen here.
