Psalm 6

Before I begin today’s post, please be reminded that the format this year is very simple. As we strive to grow deeper with God through prayer in 2025, we’re reading one Psalm per day and then I’m sharing a prayer based on the Psalm. This is what we call “Praying the Bible”. It’s turning the Word of God into “words we speak to God”. I hope that you’ll think about writing your own prayer based on the Psalm sometimes too. Today’s one is particularly poignant …

Psalm 6

LORD,
Please don’t be angry at me for what I’m about to pray
(Then again you already know what’s in my heart before I utter a word …)

It just feels as though you’re taking forever –
as if I pray and pray to no avail.
Lord, I’m so tired,
so utterly exhausted,
my body aches,
my mind spins,
my soul is in dark despair.
I just can’t do this anymore!
I just can’t!
Will this never end?!

But LORD, I know you love me forever:
Be merciful to me.
Give me strength.
Reach into this dark pit and rescue me
so that I can praise You again!
Down here in the darkness, all I have to offer You is
my broken heart, my desperate confusion, and a constant stream of tears,
as I cry aloud:

“Please, LORD … Please
Come to me and rescue me!”

Still
While I wait, I cling to You in desperate faith
and I speak to the darkness:
“Watch out Darkness!
Your days are numbered!
My God has seen my tears and heard my cries.
My God is on His way …”

The Sun WILL rise again!
