Psalm 35

Lord, my Loving God
Thank You that You welcome me,
even when I come to you in a mess of brokenness, confusion and despair,
frustrated, in danger and afraid.
In You I am safe and secure from every storm.
In You I find rest for my weary soul.

LORD, there is no one like You!
Even when everyone else
has turned against me or deserted me,
You never do, and You never will.

People seem so capable of treachery and deceit.
When I’m the one they plot against,
oppose, undermine,
and attack without reason –
When I’m the one they falsely accuse,
lie about, slander, mock, defame –
When I’m the one they take advantage of,
misuse, abuse –
Even when everyone I have
compassionately cared for and nurtured,
prayed for and loved,
has turned their back on me,
denied, abandoned and betrayed me –
You never do! You never will!
You remain faithful and true!
LORD, there is no one like You!

I know that I could ask You to defeat them and destroy them,
to confuse them and disgrace them,
to let their treachery find them out
and bring them to their knees.

But all I find myself able to pray is:
Lord, I entrust myself to You and Your perfect care.
Rescue me, Lord, and restore me again.
It is enough for me that You are my Rock and my Shield,
my Saviour and my Joy,
the Protector of the weak and my Defence.
Great are You, Lord, my Righteous God.
I give you all my thanks and praise
as I trust in You and You alone.
Amen.
