Psalm 40

Psalm 40

LORD, my Saving God,
Surrounded by so many troubles,
blinded by the darkness of sin,
crushed by the weight of guilt and shame –
in my weakness and poverty,
all my courage and confidence melted away.
Brought to my knees in desperation,
out of my darkest night, I cried to You:
“Please Lord, save me!
Please, Lord!
Help!”

You, LORD, are my Saviour and my God!
My cry came before You and You heard me,
You listened to my anguish,
You reached into the dungeon of my darkness,
into the sinking sand of my soul,
and You rescued me!
You brought me to safety and made me secure.
You filled my heart with joy
and my lips with songs of praise.
O LORD, my Saviour and my God,
Your love and faithfulness never fail.
Your mercy to me is an endless stream.
Hallelujah!
All praise and glory to You alone!

O LORD,
You are incomparable.
Your plans for me are unspeakably good.
You have done the most marvellous miracles in my life.
How could I ever thank You?
Not with a king’s ransom in offerings.
Not with a thousand sacrifices a day.
I will offer You my life, laid down in sweet surrender,
lived for Your praise and glory,
dedicated to obeying Your Word and Your Will,
with the testimony of Your saving love and faithfulness
always on my lips.

O LORD,
I will live to praise You.
I will live to give You thanks.
Now and forever. Amen!
