Yesterday Psalm 41 very quietly brought us to the end of what is known as “Book 1” of the Book of Psalms. That’s why Psalm 41 ended with the double affirmation: “Amen and Amen”.
So today feels like a good day to remind everyone that in 2025, these daily posts consist simply of a Psalm-of-the-day (which I urge you to read or listen to for yourself) plus my personal attempt to pray that Psalm back to the Lord. I hope that by doing this I will add some small measure of value to your own devotional reading of the Psalm. At the same time I hope to hereby pass on to you my own love for that form of devotional reading known as “Praying the Word”.
Right let’s get going with “Book 2” …
LORD, my Saviour and my God,
I yearn for You with all my heart.
Oh, how I long to stand beneath an open heaven,
worshiping You,
surrounded by the joyful praises
of Your faithful people,
with the living water of Your presence
washing over me and satisfying my thirsty soul.
I’ll be singing my song of praise:
“All my hope is in You, Lord
I will praise You forever,
my Saviour and my God!”
But LORD, I confess,
There are days
when I feel cut off from Your people and Your presence,
isolated and alone,
under a dark cloud of despair,
trapped beneath a raging torrent of troubles,
crushed by the attacks of my accusers,
overwhelmed by questions with no answers!
And yet,
when that spiteful, accusing voice asks,
“Where is your God?”
I find my soul can not stay silent!
For, despite my feelings,
in my heart of hearts, I know,
You have never forsaken me,
my Saviour and my God!
Your unfailing love has always been
a beacon of light
in the dark night
of my soul!
So, by Your grace,
above the roar of the dark horde besieging me,
I sing my song of defiance:
“All my hope is in You, Lord
I will praise You forever,
my Saviour and my God!”
