Psalm 45 is a song written for the wedding of one of the kings of Israel. In this prayer I am relying on the New Testament image of the “Bride of Christ” and seeing the Psalm as an expression of wonderful truth about our “Bridegroom”, King Jesus.
O Lord, my King
You are too wondrous for words!
Your eternity is beyond expression,
Your splendour outshines the stars,
Your Word is more precious than gold,
more powerful than the blazing sun;
Your Presence, overwhelming in glory and majesty.
O Lord, my King
In all Your glory:
Rise up in me, and conquer every enemy.
Establish Your truth and justice.
By Your irresistible power,
Let Your will be done in me.
Defeat the very presence of sin in my life.
I long with all my heart:
to bring You delight,
to put Your beautiful character on display,
to show the world Your wonders,
to spread the fragrance of Your holy presence far and wide,
to love You more and more each day,
and to fill Your heart with joy!
O Lord, my King
May my life spread Your fame
to the ends of the earth
and bring You praise
for ever and ever.
Amen.
