Psalm 55

Psalm 55

O LORD, hear my humble cry
I am in a dark and dangerous place,
Surrounded on every side by
threats and cruel oppression,
anger and hatred,
crime and violence,
destruction and deceit.
The upright are scorned and mocked,
taken advantage of and defrauded.
It’s a world falling apart!

Many are abused by total strangers.
But how horrifying it is for me
that the one so viciously attacking
is my friend and confidant!

O LORD, how can this be?!

We shared such beautiful moments of worship
and walked together through such deep valleys
side by side.
But now,
our rich history of trust and vulnerability
is a weapon,
and the voice that encouraged and strengthened me
cuts me to the heart.
Everything within me yearns to run and hide.
But where on earth would I be safe?
The pain of betrayal would
hunt me down
and haunt me.

O God, my Help and my Salvation,
I praise You,
for Your ears are always open
to my cries for help.
Your answer is never far away.

So I call to You,
Eternal God and King
Morning, noon and night,
my cries come before You
I lay my troubles at Your feet
and in You I trust
to defend and protect me,
to confound and defeat every attack
to grant me victory in every battle,
against every enemy.

O LORD,
in You and You alone I trust.
Now and forever.
Amen.
