The Widow’s Faith

During the coming week (14-18 April 2025) we’ll pause our journey through the Psalms to focus on moments from Jesus’ final week in Jerusalem. As usual, I encourage you to read and prayerfully reflect on the passage for the day and then to try to write a prayer based on that reading in your journal. The blog post will be my personal prayer.

Luke 21:1-4

Heavenly Father,
My Glorious Life-Giver and Provider –

Please forgive me
for the many times I have not trusted You
with the things I don’t understand,
or the situations I cannot control.

Please forgive me
for holding back the money
or material things
I should have given joyfully
to Your treasury
or to others in need,
out of fear
that I would somehow not have enough,
or out of a selfish desire
for possessions or experiences
that money could buy.

Please forgive me
for the times I have given to be seen,
or to gain the respect or applause of others,
rather than out of love for You.

Holy Spirit,
please change my heart.
Give me the faith of the poor widow
who trusted You so much
she was free to put in everything she had.
Give me the faith of Jesus
who trusted You so much
that He was free to lay down his life,
not in an offering box
but on the Cross,
for me!
Amen
