A prayer for Good Friday

Luke 22:66 – 23:56

Lord Jesus
You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Son of God and Son of Man,
the King of all kings
and Lord of all lords,
You rule and reign at the right hand
of the Almighty Father,
the High King of Heaven, Forever.

How can I do anything but marvel,
then worship and adore You,
as I remember again today
Your act of perfect love.

My God and King,
Thank You for giving up the glory of heaven
to take on our frail flesh,
and touch us with Your grace and truth.

In Your vast, eternal love,
You lived, You called,
You taught, You healed,
You gave Yourself away.
Then, when Your light exposed the darkness
of our human greed and pride and lust for power,
we,
Your loved ones,
turned on You!

In our selfishness and sin
we betrayed, denied, and sold you out,
we lied, we scorned,
we mocked, we struck,
we flogged and crucified,
the Son of God and Son of Man,
the King of all kings
and Lord of all lords.

Yet here, in the darkness
of guilt and shame,
and deep despair,
as I turn my eyes to Your frail body
on the Cross,
I see only the light of love in Your eyes.
I see no darkness of hatred or revenge.
I hear You pray the most beautiful words ever heard,
“Father!
Forgive
them!”
You make the most merciful promise ever made,
“Paradise!
With Me!
Today!”
And then in love for me
and everyone who has lived or ever will,
You breathed Your final breath in prayer
“Father
into Your
hands
I commit
My

Spirit…”

Surely, Lord Jesus
You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Son of God and Son of Man,
the King of all kings
and Lord of all lords,
You rule and reign at the right hand
of the Almighty Father,
the High King of Heaven Forever.
How can I do anything but marvel,
then worship and adore You,
as I remember again today
Your act of perfect love.

Amen.
