Psalm 78

Lord of all Eternity,
God of our yesterdays and all of our tomorrows,
we honour You and praise You
for Your faithfulness and Your unfailing love.

Lord, teach us the lessons we ought to learn from our past,
so that we can be faithful to You forever.
Open our eyes to the mysteries of Your sovereign care,
the wonders we should never forget,
and Your gracious works of power on our behalf.

You set us apart as Your beloved!
You delivered us from evil
and led us through danger and despair.
You provided for all our needs.
You taught us Your ways
and what is pleasing in Your sight.

When we stumbled and fell
into rebellion and sin,
You did not forsake us.
But You did allow us to burn our hands
and bump our heads.
We felt the pain of the wages of sin.

But then,
in Your mercy,
You forgave and restored
You lifted us up and You rescued again.

Over and over
Your faithful and unfailing love
persisted with us;
through our faltering faith
and our failure to trust,
when our memory of Your mercies grew dim
and our hearts turned away;
still, You stayed faithful
and rescued us, again and again.

Lord,
God of our yesterdays and all of our tomorrows,
we honour You and give You praise
for Your faithfulness and unfailing love.

Teach us the lessons we surely must learn
and help us to never forget.
Grace us to pass on our faith
not our faltering,
to the next generation of those whom you love.
May they always avoid the mistakes we have made
and grow further with You
than we ever have.
Amen.
