Psalm 83

Psalm 83

Father,
I pray for Your children,
Your beloved,
Your beleaguered, persecuted people,
under attack by
those seeking to destroy them,
those who hate You and rebel
against You,
and against all that is lovely and good.

Just as so many have done
for so long
in so many places
and so many ways,
they plot and plan,
they scheme and connive,
filled with bitterness
against You,
against those You love,
against all that is lovely and good.
They aim
to destroy,
to annihilate
all who love You
and call on Your Name.

Father,
come in power I pray:
Blow them away like dust on the wind.
Swallow them up like fire consuming a forest.
But the wind is Your Spirit
and the fire is Your love.
Bring them to surrender,
ashamed of their rebellion.
Then, Father, forgive them
and win them to Yourself –
their rebellion defeated forever
by their newfound reverence and love
for You,
and for Your people.
Make them Your very own,
Your beloved
forever.
Amen.
