Psalm 122 is a “Song of Ascent”. It was written as a blessing to be prayed by pilgrims on their way to worship in Jerusalem. Jerusalem was to be blessed because it was the place where God’s people gathered to worship. I have taken it as an inspiration to pray for our local church – the people with whom we gather to worship.
LORD, I am so grateful for every opportunity
to gather with Your people
to worship You,
to celebrate Your goodness to us,
and to receive Your Word
of truth and justice.
LORD, in Your mercy and grace
grant that our Church may
prosper in every way
and be at peace.
Grant that when we gather
we may do so in safety,
and in beautiful order and harmony
under the protection of Your love.
LORD, may we Your people
be a blessing to You,
to each other,
and to the world.
