Prayer
God of all wisdom, I give You praise. You are worthy to be loved, honoured and obeyed with all my heart and with every moment of my life. As I enter Your presence and Your Word now, speak Your life-giving truth to me I pray. Amen.
Reading
Read Proverbs 3 slowly and prayerfully. Notice which verse particularly jumps out at you. Re-read that verse a few times slowly. Write it down in your journal. Try to memorise it so that you can reflect on it without having to read from the page.
Prayerful Reflection
Now take that Proverb and think about your life at the moment. Is there a situation in your life to which that Proverb applies. Ask the Lord how this verse from His Word is telling you to live out His wisdom in that situation. Make notes in your journal.
A Devotional Thought
Proverbs 3:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Far more often than we realise, we stand at a crossroads. We are faced with a choice between two paths. One aligns with God’s revealed wisdom and will, but when we gaze down it we anticipate difficulties and potential hardships. The other path looks far easier, more comfortable and even apparently more sensible by human standards.
In those moments, Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust the Lord, and to trust Him enough to lean entirely on Him, His wisdom and His will. It calls us to put all our eggs into the basket of His will, and to choose Him and His ways every time, because we trust Him absolutely. When we do so, it promises us that God will lead us in His everlasting way – the Way of Life in all its goodness and fullness – which is so wonderfully described and promised throughout the rest of the chapter.
Prayer
God of all wisdom, whenever I stand at a crossroads today, help me to see clearly which is Your path. Help me in that moment to trust You enough to submit my will to Your wisdom, and grant me the grace and power to set out down that path, and to persevere on it in obedience to You. Amen.
