Prayer
Lord, You are worthy to be worshiped, adored and obeyed. Show me Your will and Your way today, I pray. Amen.
Reading
Read Proverbs 26 slowly and prayerfully. Notice which verse particularly jumps out at you. Re-read that verse a few times, slowly. Write it down in your journal. Try to memorise it so that you can reflect on it without having to read from the page.
Prayerful Reflection
Now take that Proverb and think about your life at the moment. Is there a situation in your life to which that Proverb applies. Ask the Lord how this verse from His Word is telling you to live out His wisdom in that situation. Make notes in your journal.
A Devotional Thought
Proverbs 26:
23 Insincere talk that hides what you are really thinking is like a fine glaze on a cheap clay pot. (GNT)
Imagine buying what you believe to be a fine silver pot. That is what the traveling salesman claims it is, that’s what the price suggests, and that’s exactly what it appears to be outwardly. You invest a great deal of money because you truly believe it is silver. But after one or two uses, you notice that your “silver pot” is losing its shine. You have been duped. This is nothing more than a cheap clay pot that had been lightly glazed to give the appearance of silver.
This, says today’s Proverb, is what we do to others whenever we speak insincerely to hide what we are really thinking. We are using our words to mislead people about our true thoughts and opinions. And whenever we act in this way, we are building lives and relationships on what is not true. This may seldom cause any great harm immediately, but over time it will certainly harm us and others. Decisions made on the basis of what was not true will never be good decisions. Relationships built with a false version of someone are never healthy relationships.
God is Truth at the core of His Being (Number 23:19). Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13). Only when we operate in the realm of truth are we building on a Godly foundation. Only when we speak truth are we helping others to build their lives on a trustworthy foundation.
Prayer
Lord, You are the Truth and Your Way is Truth! Please forgive me for times I have misled others by my words or my silences. Help me to walk in Your Way of Truth today. Amen.
