Thanksgiving | Wednesday

Over the last two days we’ve remembered God’s goodness to us both spiritually (Monday) and through other people (Tuesday). As we continue our week of reflection, let’s take today to focus on how God has impacted our lives for the positive and has revealed His goodness and love in very physical ways. King David certainly sets us a great example in his prayer of praise and thanks, recorded for us on the occasion of his dedicating the tabernacle in 1 Chronicles 16.

Sing to him, sing praise to him;
    tell of all his wonderful acts.
10 Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
11 Look to the Lord and his strength;
    seek his face always.
12 Remember the wonders he has done,
    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.
25
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    he is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendour and majesty are before him;
    strength and joy are in his dwelling-place.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

1 Chronicles 16: 9-12,25-27, 34

Take time to look back on your life in 2025 and remember with gratitude:

  1. The ways God has encouraged me and added value to my life through the natural world;
  2. The ways God has provided for my physical/material needs;
  3. The ways God has guided me;
  4. The practical doors God has opened for me and the new opportunities God has given me;
  5. The ways God has physically protected me;
  6. The ways God has healed me or my loved ones physically.

Remember to make a list in your journal (or on a sheet of paper). Then, keep it handy throughout the day to add to it as memories of God’s goodness in your physical life emerge.

Lord, You are an awesome God, robed in majesty and enthroned in eternal splendour. Yet You come to me each day in tender love and care. Thank You Lord! Amen.
