Walk in the Light

Daily Reading: Isaiah 2:1-5

In a nation threatened by the advance of the all-conquering Assyrian army, Isaiah foresaw a Day of Peace. But this was not a peace accomplished by fighting fire with overwhelming fire in a cycle of ever-increasing violence, where finally the most powerful wins. Instead, Isaiah foresaw a Day of Peace established by God Himself.

Isaiah foresaw that this supernatural peace would occur when God’s faithful people so excellently exalted the Lord and lived in the light of His Word, that they even drew the attention of the most warlike people of the world (v.2). Isaiah foresaw a day when people of many nations would stream to the House of the LORD, to seek the God who had so evidently transformed the lives of His people (v.3). They would come hungry to learn God’s ways and they would leave with their hearts so transformed by His Word that they would beat their weapons of war and death into implements of life (v.4).

Isaiah foresaw that, by His Presence and His Word of Life, God Himself would bring about the Day of Peace. Now that is a peace for which we can pray! And that is also the peace to which we are called to contribute by “walking in the light of the Lord” (v.5). After all, in Isaiah’s vision, it is our faithful display of the beauty of God that begins to draw people to God for transformation in the first place!

We know that this Day will only fully come at the Return of our King, but it can already start coming closer through our lives today!

Lord in times of conflict, empower me by Your Spirit to walk in the Light of Your Word and Your Ways, so that others may come home to you and find peace. Amen.
