Daily Readings: Psalm 65 and Psalm 84
Today you’re invited to memorise Psalm 84:11-12
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favour and honour;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose way of life is blameless.
12 Lord Almighty,
blessed is the one who trusts in you.
First try to commit it to memory and then meditate on it throughout the day in light of Psalm 65, and particularly v.4
4 Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.
In Psalm 84 we are told, ” no good thing does he withhold from those whose way of life is blameless“. This feels like an unattainable blessing for anyone honest enough to recognise that we could never be described as “blameless”. But then Psalm 65:4 announces wonderful news: The blessings of being filled with the good things of God’s house are for “those YOU choose and bring near to live in Your courts.”
God is so intent on blessing people that He chooses to draw unworthy human beings near to Himself, graciously declares us blameless in His sight (not because of our merits but because of His mercy) and then blesses us with the good things which He has stored up for “the blameless”. Blessing is God’s grace from beginning to end. What an awesome God we serve!
Thank You, LORD, for Your unspeakable mercy and kindness towards me, a sinner. Thank You for declaring me blameless because of the finished work of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and for adopting me into Your Family as Your beloved child. Help me to live in the same spirit of mercy, and to choose to extend blessing and kindness to everyone I meet today. May Your blessing flow through me freely. Amen.
One response to “Psalm 65”
Again, Dave, you’re confirming what He said to me yesterday!
He brought Ps. 84:11 to my attention, then I shared my thoughts about being blameless with my home group, so wow, blessings to you. You explain the Word so well and I feel nourished daily.
