Preparing for Thanksgiving: Day Three

Daily Reading: Isaiah 12

As our Thanksgiving journey continues, today’s reading invites us to thank the Lord in relation to our salvation. Don’t miss the fact that Isaiah 11 describes the coming of God’s anointed Saviour King, the Messiah, and the perfect justice and peace of His Kingdom. In that context, Isaiah 12 calls us to bring praise and thanks to the Lord for His great works of salvation.

Today, please meditate on the following truths which emerge from Isaiah 12, on how you experience them in your own life, and on specific moments this year when you have become deeply conscious of their reality:

  • Through Jesus the Messiah, God has turned away His judgment against us, forgiven our many sins, and comforted us with the assurance that we are forgiven and accepted.
  • Through Jesus, the rule and reign of the Lord Almighty has extended over our lives as our Saviour, our Source of daily strength and our Defender in every time of trouble. In Him, and through His constant presence in us and with us, we have deliverance from anxiety and fear.
  • Through Jesus, we have deep-seated joy that flows not from circumstance, but from our restored relationship with God.

Now take time to consider how you might adequately give thanks to the Lord for these great truths of your salvation. Isaiah 12 suggests that we give praise … proclaim His Name .. tell what he has done … sing to the Lord in gratitude … shout His praise aloud .. and sing for joy “for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.” (v.6) That’s quite a list. But how could you most meaningfully express your gratitude to the Lord for all He has done for you this year?

Holy Spirit, help me to see afresh the wonders of my salvation, and to give thanks and praise appropriately to Jesus my Saviour King. Amen.
